How to Resize an Image to 50 KB, 100 KB or 200 KB for Online Forms
Application forms for jobs, entrance exams, visas and government services often give strict limits for photos and signatures, such as 50 KB, 100 KB or 200 KB. A phone photo is usually a few megabytes, so the upload is rejected. You can fix it in a minute without installing anything.
What makes a picture large
Two things decide the file size: the dimensions in pixels and the compression quality. A photo that is 4000 pixels wide holds far more data than one that is 600 pixels wide, and a higher quality setting also means a bigger file. To reach a small limit you usually lower both a little rather than one of them a lot.
Resize to a size limit in KB
- Open Resize image and choose your photo.
- Type the limit in Maximum file size in KB, for example 50.
- Leave the width and height empty unless the form also asks for exact pixels.
- Select Resize. The tool lowers the quality step by step and, if that is not enough, reduces the dimensions slightly until the file fits.

If the form asks for exact pixels

Tips for signatures and small photos
- Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen and take the photo straight on in good light. Crop away the desk before resizing.
- Choose JPG unless the form says PNG. Most forms ask for JPG or JPEG.
- Start from the original photo. Resizing a picture that was already compressed several times gives a blurrier result.
- If the picture looks too soft at your limit, check whether the form allows a slightly larger size.
Common mistakes
Renaming a file from .png to .jpg does not convert it. Taking a screenshot of a photo lowers its quality. And always check whether the form wants JPG, JPEG or PNG before you upload.
