How to Merge Your CV and Certificates Into One PDF

Many job applications ask for a single PDF containing your CV, your degree or certificates, experience letters and sometimes a copy of your ID — not five separate attachments. Putting these together correctly, in the right order and under the size limit, makes the difference between an application that looks organized and one that gets sent back.

What you will need

Gather your documents first: your CV (likely already a PDF or Word export), scanned or photographed certificates and experience letters, and an ID copy if asked for. If any of these are only photos, turn them into a PDF first with Image to PDF or Scan to PDF.

Merge them step by step

  1. Open Merge PDF and add every file: your CV, each certificate and any ID copy.
  2. Put them in order with the arrows. A sensible order is CV first, then your highest qualification, then experience letters, then supporting documents like an ID copy last.
  3. Select Merge and download the combined file.
  4. If a page is sideways, open the result in Rotate PDF or use Organize PDF to straighten it before you send it.

Check the file size before you apply

Combined, these documents can easily pass 1 or 2 MB, especially if certificates were scanned at high quality. Most job portals state a limit, commonly 1 MB or 2 MB. If your merged file is over it, compress the whole thing at once with Compress PDF rather than compressing each document separately beforehand, since compressing once at the end keeps the file smaller for the same quality.

A few things that get applications rejected

  • Pages in the wrong order. Recruiters often look at the first page or two only — put your CV first, not last.
  • Sideways or upside-down scans. Straighten every page before merging; a reviewer will not rotate your file to read it.
  • A file over the stated limit. Some portals reject the upload outright rather than warning you, so check the size before submitting.
  • Missing pages after merging. Open the final PDF and check every document is present and readable before you send it.

Keep a master copy

Keep your individual documents (CV, each certificate) separately as well as the merged file, so you can rebuild a different combination for a different application without starting from scratch each time.

Quick answers

What order should my documents be in?

CV or resume first, since that is what is usually read first, followed by your main qualification, then experience letters, then any ID copy or supporting document last.

Can I merge a Word CV with scanned certificates?

If your CV is a Word file, save or export it as a PDF first, then merge it with your other PDFs. Merge PDF combines PDF files, not Word documents.

Will merging reduce the quality of my certificates?

No. Merging only joins files together and does not recompress them. If the combined file is too large afterwards, compress it separately as a final step.

Try it now with Merge PDF. It is free and your files are never uploaded.
